Example: deciding not to pursue an opportunity

A fictional qualification decision demonstrates why a score cannot replace eligibility review.

Published version 1 · Updated

Practice scenario

BrightPath finds an opportunity that appears aligned with learning programs. The official terms limit applicants to a region where the fictional organization does not operate.

Worked decision

Record the geographic exclusion and the date the source was checked. Mark the opportunity unsuitable for the current program rather than rewriting the profile to imply service in that region. Keep any uncertainty as a question for the opportunity owner.

Review and next step

Use the saved reason to avoid repeated evaluation of the same mismatch. Pursue a different opportunity whose official criteria match the organization and capacity. This example illustrates a decision process, not an actual funder’s requirements.
